The series of paintings that were selected are emotionally charged explorations of deeply personal subjects, including past lovers, death, and ever-changing perception of self, references to substance use, childhood nostalgia, fear of abandonment, and touches of emotional fragility. Coming Home featured as a series of interlinked paintings that I thoroughly considered and revisited over a long period of time, heavily focusing on “returning” to my roots, to which I feel deeply connected. In terms of selection prior to installation, the works selected in association with October Salon encapsulated my journey from living as a practicing artist in Bristol for five years to returning to my roots, with which I feel a deep emotional affinity: my hometown of Preston, where my obsession with painting began at age 21.
